Welcome To Our World!

McPhearson Grey Bailey. Born September 18, 2010. 7 lbs, 20.5 inches long! Welcome to our world beautiful baby girl!

Friday morning I went to see my OB/GYN doc because I was 4 days overdue and we needed to check and see how things were progressing with baby M. When the nurse weighed me in at a whopping 140 pounds (total gain of 30!) I told her the previous week my doc had mentioned we may have to induce and that McPhearson could possibly be getting an eviction notice. Then she took my blood pressure and did a urinalysis test and said she thought baby M would be getting the eviction notice right then and there. My doc came and said yep, gonna send you over to labor and delivery. Reality set in and my eyes probably grew as wide as the ocean! Then, waves of excitement (and a little bit of fear, not gonna lie) came crashing over me. I called Matt at work and told him I was coming to get him because it was time... and I teared up a little. Then I called my mom. She said she was leaving work and would meet us at the hospital. Picked up the hubby. Went home to grab the hospital bag, etc. And off we went. Excited. Nervous. Scared. Laughing. Shed a few tears too.

We arrived at the hospital around noon and checked in/registered. Matt was a bundle of nerves, as well was I. Then we were escorted to our labor/delivery room. Room Number Ten. Perfect ten for a perfect baby and delivery! Mom showed up. She felt bad for bringing lunch with her, especially since I hadn't had lunch and was then not allowed to eat anything at all. It didn't phase me. Nurses came in and it took them 3 tries to get my IV hooked up. Ouch! Drew blood for tests. Ouch. Hooked up the fetal monitor, etc to my belly. We were all set and ready to go.

The doc came in at 2:00 pm and broke my water. It was time to get things moving. Goosh! Totally gross! I eventually started feeling the contractions. My pain level reached 6-7/10 when I finally asked for the epidural. This was around 6:00 pm. Good thing I asked because the anesthesiologist was about to go into surgery and wouldn't have been available for a while. I couldn't imagine having to tolerate more than what I was feeling. Let me just say that the anesthesiologist was my new best friend. That epidural took the edge completely off! Thanks big E... I am forever in your debt.

Around 2:00 am I started feeling the contractions again, so my new best friend came back in and hooked me up, again knocked the edge off. My right leg was completely numb. I would ask Matt to squeeze my toes from time to time just so I could feel something... left side never went completely numb. And that's the side I could feel the contractions on.

At 4:00 am the doc came in to take a look at things (he'd already done this several times previously). He and the nurse wanted me to try a couple of practice pushes because I was finally fully dilated! When I pushed, baby M crowned. He said he was going to go get his team ready and he'd be right back! I couldn't believe it was finally time... and again I got a little scared.

I am amazed at how easy the delivery was! I pushed a set of 3, then a set of 2 and another set of 2, and a final set of three and baby M was pulled up right before my very eyes. I couldn't believe how big she was... I thought she'd be teeny-tiny! I started laughing and crying at the same time. McPhearson was (and is) the most beautiful little thing I've ever seen, and I couldn't believe Matt and I made her! She took my breath away. I thought I'd be trying to push her out for 15 to 20 minutes, but it only took maybe five! Again, love the big E! I could sense the pressure of her little body... but felt no pain. I also thought I would feel her head and then her shoulders, etc as she made her way into this world, but again, I didn't feel any of that.

She was weighed. She was measured. And when all was said and done, she added up. They placed her in my arms, skin-to-skin, and I instantly fell in love. I knew her. And now I could actually see her for the very first time.

Well, that's it for tonight. Will post more later. Just glad to say my baby girl is finally here. Matt and I are two of the happiest parents in the whole wide world! Now I just need to post some pics...

40 Weeks And 1 Day

Hello all!

Yesterday was our due date, and as you can see we are now one day past due and still no baby. I think Baby B is taking after me... she's taking her sweet time getting here. And that's okay with me. I'm not uncomfortable at all, and I just want her to be as healthy as can be. The doc did say they don't typically let pregnancies go past 41 weeks, so if she doesn't decide to get a move on she may end up getting a little push from him. So looking forward for what is to come within the next few weeks! I can't wait to start to get to know our little one! What an adventure we are going to have!

This has been a short post from Ticking-Time-Bomb. Stay tuned for more updates on Baby B making her entrance into this world! Yay!

39 Weeks

Baby B is preparing to meet us soon! 6 days and counting to reach her due date (give or take a few!) September 13th is right around the corner. WOW!

At 39 weeks pregnant she is still building a layer of fat to help regulate her body temperature when she ventures out into the world. Also, Baby B's skin is sloughing off as new layers of skin develop underneath the old layers.

I feel like a ticking time bomb and wonder when I'm gonna pop? Still have a few last minute things to do to get ready for her arrival, so I won't be terribly disappointed if she takes her time getting here. At the same time, I can't wait to meet her! I can't wait to look into her eyes... admire her chubby cheeks and button nose! And I can't wait for her to grab my fingers and hold on! What an adventure we are about to have! Love you kiddo! Looking forward to holding you in my arms!

37 Weeks

Hi all! Sorry I have been out of touch for so long. It's been tough living out of a suitcase and not having internet access from the home computer.

Well, we are now at the 37 week mark... 2 weeks and 5 days to go! Approximately. I cannot believe our little girl will be here so soon. 9 months felt like forever in the beginning and now her arrival is right around the corner! Doc says everything looks good. Not expecting anything major to happen just yet. All is well, just gives me more time to finish unpacking boxes and getting the baby room/rest of the house organized before she makes her debut! Had a couple of baby showers recently. Need to get pics posted... and of course when our little one enters this world, we will have many more pics for you to see!

Cooked an amazing dinner tonight! Honey-Rosemary Stuffed Pork Chops. Check out the recipe on MyRecipe.Com. All I can say is WOW!

It's late and I'm pooped. Postings will probably continue to be short for the next month or so until I get used to life with baby... and finish getting my house in order. Thanks for your patience!

Good night all!

Still Here...

Hi everyone! Sorry we haven't posted in a while. Moving from one coast to another and not having computer access has been a little hectic. Still not quite out of the woods yet in that department. Have a week and a half to go before we get our furniture (and beloved computer back up and running). So stay with us. Once we get unpacked and settled, I'll be sure to give you a good update. (Did manage to find a computer and a few spare minutes to post this message... definitely more to follow at a later date!)

29 Weeks

29 weeks preggo! Baby should now weigh around 2.5 pounds and measure 15 inches in length. Major developments... baby' head is growing bigger to accomidate for growing brain. It' great that baby' head is growing, I just don't want to have to think about it leaving my body! Baby is getting more active and muscles are getting stronger. It's very important that I make sure I'm getting all the nutrients needed for baby's ever growing process.

In other news, the movers came and packed up our house on Friday. Everything is in boxes and we are currently living out of suitcases. Agh! Movers come back tomorrow to load up the truck. Thursday morning we hope to be getting on the road.

Well, I am texting all of this on Matt's tiny little cell phone (as the computer has been packed) and it' rather annoying, so that's all for now!

9 Days And Counting...

Much more enthusiastic about one of our count-downs. In 9 days we hope to be moving back east. Checked a lot of items off of my To-Do List today and am feeling very happy about that! Still have a few hectic hurdles to jump, but it's all down hill from here, baby! Feeling some of that stress, but know it's all going to be worth it in the end!

Hello 3rd Trimester!

I am now in my 3rd trimester! Celebrated by eating yummy, yummy chicken wings, roasted potatoes and corn on the cob... all cooked by very dear friends! I'm stuffed. Baby is stuffed. And I'm pretty sure my 2nd and 3rd (future) children are stuffed too!

28 weeks. 12 more to go. WOW! Baby Girl Bailey should now weigh around 2 pounds and a quarter and should measure around 14.8 inches in length. She can blink her eyes and now has eyelashes. Baby B's eyesight is developing and she may be able to sense light filtering through the womb. Building billions of neurons in her brain and continuing to add on the baby fat! So exciting!

Celebrated Father's Day on Sunday. Made a card for Matt and took him out to lunch. He also says celebrating parental holidays will not feel official until our baby girl actually enters this world and he is holding her in his arms. We also went to the Hospitality House Sunday night for another baby shower/going away party.

We are going to miss seeing our Hospitality House family every week, but are so glad we are able to spend a little bit more time with them before we go! Well, down to the last stretch... our lives are changing forever and for the better!

And I Cried...

Yesterday at lunch, Matt told us one of his stories about working on the internal medicine ward at a hospital. He said that one of the patients, a little old man, had been in a coma for a while, opened his eyes while Matt was sitting with him, let out a big sigh, closed his eyes and then passed. As Matt was getting toward the end of his story, I could sense what was coming and said, "Matt, you're gonna make me cry." And by the time he finished I was bawling my eyes out! One of my supervisors sitting across from me just kind of looked at me with a "what just happened?" expression... so I simply sobbed out "hormones." Yep, just one more thing for me to cry over. And it happens so easily now. I suggested to Matt that he should probably choose his stories a little more carefully over the next few months as I now cry at the drop of a hat! (Of course, that story gets me every time... just never quite as quickly before.)

Great night at the Hospitality House tonight! Praise and worship songs were awesome! Teared up a little while singing. Bible study/video on point. Good message about communication in marriage (which can also be applied to relationships in general): The human tongue can be a dangerous weapon and thus one should be mindful of what one says and how he says it to another.

End Of The Second Chapter

Well folks, I am in the last week of my 2nd trimester. Now 27 weeks along with 13 weeks to go. I can't believe it! 13 just seems like such a small number compared to 40. Time is just moving right along. Baby Girl Bailey will be here before we know it! Then there will be no more count down... we'll be counting up!

Major developments this week: Baby B should now measure around 14.5 inches long and weigh around 2 pounds! She should be sleeping/waking at regular intervals, opening/closing her eyes and may even be sucking on her fingers. More brain tissue is developing and is more active. Lungs are still immature, but if the baby were to be born early she could survive with medical assistance. Also, I think our little girl is starting to get more hiccups.

In other news, Matt and I are still busy going through the house trying to get rid of stuff we just don't use anymore. We've also been doing a lot of cleaning in preparation for our upcoming move. It's such a hassle, this task of preparing to move, but it definitely needs to be done! Nothing like lightening the load before you relocate cross-country. It's almost behind us. Yes, it is almost behind us!

The Belly, 26 Weeks & 4 Days

Just a couple of belly pics from last night, post baby shower. I am 26 weeks and 4 days preggo. I just love my little bump!

Baby Shower, Part Two

Friday, June 11, 2010
5:00 - 10:00 pm
Baby Shower/Going Away

The Gifts...
Some of the crowd starting to come in with a snack-attack! Pre-dinner munching at it's finest!
Let the games begin!
Guess what's in the poopy diaper?
I think this one was a mashed Cheeto.
Now guess the circumference of my belly. I suggested a pillow for more accurate estimation.
Was the suggestion helpful?
Yes! Our winner!
Time for gifts!
Cards...
More gifts.
A combo party... baby shower/going away. Remembering good times with co-workers.
The end of the evening.

What a great party! We took 340 pictures last night. I just chose a few to share. So many people came out to celebrate... good times had by all. Thanks everyone for such a fun and festive event!

Baby Shower, Part One

Friday, June 11, 2010
5:00 - 10:00 pm
Baby Shower/Going Away

Co-workers had a combo baby shower/going away party for me and a few other co-workers tonight. We had loads of fun! Good food, good company, baby shower games and minute-to-win-it challenges. And we took tons of pictures! There were a few tears, followed by a lot of laughter. Memories and "most memorable moments" of individuals were shared. Transitions are always bittersweet. Sometimes you don't want to have to say goodbye, yet you look forward to moving on. All I can say is thank goodness for technology because cell phones and internet make it so much easier to keep in touch with friends!

I will post pictures of the party sometime this weekend, so check back in a day or two for updates.

Quick, Hand Me An Umbrella

I need an umbrella! Today has been a terribly upsetting day and it feels like dark clouds from above opened directly over me to dump torrential rains a-top my head. Downpour is easing up, but showers are expected through tomorrow evening. The SHOWERs tomorrow will be much more pleasant than the downpour today because my co-works are giving me a BABY SHOWER! It's also a going-away party for myself and a few other co-workers. I expect to see clear skies tomorrow night, as much joy will hopefully have ventured back into my world.

I don't really wish to go into details about the stormy weather today. I am, however, looking forward to tomorrow. Updates tomorrow, and a new weather forecast to follow...

Oh, one last note: A friend posted the following on her Facebook, and it did help me feel a little better...

"I used to think that God's gifts were on shelves one above the other and that the taller we grew in Christian character, the more easily we should reach them. I find now that God's gifts are on shelves one beneath the other and that it is not a question of growing taller, but of stooping lower and that we have to go down, always down to get his best ones." ~ Frederick Brotherton (F.B.) Meyer

As I have felt that the world cut me in-half today, it almost makes me happy because they did me a favor and brought me closer to God's grace. And although sometimes it feels as if I am struggling alone, the above posting reminded me that I am certainly not.

Quick Baby Update

Just a quick little update on all-things-baby. Matt said that last night while I was sleeping, curled around him, the baby was kicking him in the back! Too cute! And by-the-way, he's okay. No pain inflicted.

Check

Got a few things checked off of my To-Do List today and I am feeling so much better about it! Also, it pays to know people in the right places! So thankful for friends helping me out so that I'm not sitting around waiting. They will help in preparation for our move in a huge way! Thanks guys! You've taken some of my stress away! 22 more days and then we head back to the east coast!

In A Snap

Caught a cute pic of Takota the other day and thought I would share:Good thing I had the camera handy! Isn't he just the sweetest?

26 Weeks

26 weeks pregnant and getting close to the end of my 2nd trimester. Our baby should now measure around 14 inches long and weigh around 1 pound and 2/3s. Nerves in ears are more developed and Baby B is starting to inhale small amounts of amniotic fluid to prepare lungs for breathing in air. Also, still putting on the baby fat.

On a short little stay-cation. However, it's a working stay-cation. Trying to get everything ready for the move back east. Starting to get a little overwhelmed with all that has to be done. Wish I was decorating a nursery instead of cleaning out clutter and getting ready to pack boxes. So much to do, so little time. It will all be worth it once we get there. Just a few more weeks! Then there will be lots of unpacking... ugh. After that however... a little R&R! And with the move behind us... joy. And then a little bundle of joy! I think I'd feel a little better tonight if I had more accomplished towards prep for the move. Just have to knock things off of the list one at a time. (I never was really great at the whole being patient thing...)

Give The Girl A Set Of Headphones!

A few nights ago, Matt plopped down on the sofa with me and placed his head in my lap. He had his headphones on, and was listening to music. I guess our baby girl could hear the tunes because she started squirming and wiggling and kicking and rolling across my stomach. I think she loved listening to all the different beats! She kept bopping Matt upside his head in rhythm. Too cute!

Another Belly Pic

Matt and I went down to Monterey on Friday the 28th of May for a little visit. We enjoyed being near the ocean, and eating at our favorite little Mexican restaurant, Zocalo's, in Pacific Grove. Drove past our old house... took a few pictures along the way. The above photo was taken after we got back home that evening. In this pic, I am 24 weeks and 4 days preggo. And as of today, I have gained a total of 18 pounds! Wahoo!

Nine

Nine is a very special number for me today. This number, the number nine, signifies the amount of days I have left to work during the month of June. I am very happy thinking of the number nine, and how it will quickly become eight, and then seven... so on and so forth. I cannot wait to put California behind me. I cannot wait to embrace life on the east coast once again! Carolina, I am coming home!

Pics From Memorial Day BBQ

Matt and I had a wonderful time on Memorial Day! Went to a BBQ at the Hospitality House! These are just a few pics of the two of us...

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Good News, Good News!

Just in case you haven't heard the word, I have good news! One month from today my husband and I will be driving back east! I cannot wait to live on the east coast again! Also, within the one month time-frame, I should only have 10 working days left... if all goes well...

In other good news, I am now in my 25th week of pregnancy! Our baby girl should measure around 13.5 inches long from head to toe and should weigh around 1.5 pounds. Also, she should start to plump up now and the wrinkles in her skin (from being so lean) should start to smooth out. And if we could take a peek at her... we would be able to see the color and texture of her hair. So exciting! Only 15 weeks to go! Wow-zers!

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for pictures. I will try to post some new belly shots and photos from our Memorial Day BBQ by the end of the week.

Hormonal Much?

Totally forgot to mention an extremely hormonal moment on Sunday!

Sunday evening I was sitting on the sofa watching TV. Matt was in the kitchen putting something away in the fridge. A commercial for puppy adoption popped up on the tube, and at about the same time, my ear itched. When I went to scratch my ear, I must have hit a bump or something because it kind of hurt a little. The unexpected "pain" caught me off-guard and I started to cry. Matt thought I was crying over the puppy adoption ad and said, "It's okay. The puppies will find good homes." Well, I looked up at him to find him staring at me and became extremely embarrassed. Like a two year old, I proceeded to flop myself over the side pillow, with hands over head, buried in said cushion and began whaling! By the time Matt got to me I was sobbing heavily with tears streaming down my face. He rubbed my back and said it would be okay. Then, I started laughing hysterically and told him that the puppies didn't make me cry, but that scratching my ear did. He started laughing... and then I started crying uncontrollably again. Flip-flopped back and forth between crazy laughter and sobbing tears. It's just too bad we didn't have a video camera... because that scene would have been hilarious to watch captured on film! Here's to crazy hormones! (Did I mention I love my completely wonderful and understanding husband?)

Lend Me Your Ear?

Yesterday, Baby B and I hit our 24 week mark and have approximately 16 weeks to go! Baby's length is now compared to the size of an ear of corn... she is just about a foot long and should weigh over a pound. Speaking of size, she must have had a major growth spurt over the weekend, or she must have figured out how to stretch, because I was the most uncomfortable I've been in my pregnancy thus far. I'm assuming the constant lower abdominal pressure I felt were all the ligaments stretching making room for growing baby. That, or she really loved pushing really hard against the wall of my belly. I'd say too, that our little one has definitely become more active these last two weeks... I'm starting to feel Baby B move a lot more! It is also noted that our baby is still on the lean side right now, but will start to plump up soon.

Baby's brain is growing quickly, taste buds continue to develop, and lungs are forming branches of respiratory tree (as well as cells that produce surfactant - a substance that will help lungs inflate once baby enters outside world.) Baby B's skin is still translucent, but that will start to change soon. Boy do I love these weekly developments!

Thunderstorm

I love afternoon showers in the spring and summer, especially when accompanied by thunder! Thunderstorms are a rare occurrence here in NorCal, but we actually had one yesterday afternoon! Reminded me of home! I love how you can smell the rain coming in, have a few sprinkles... and then a massive downpour. The sky gets kind of dark, and then you hear that wonderful sound... loud rumbles from the sky above! I can't wait to move back to the east coast where these storms will come and go more frequently! Then the storm clears and the temperature remains a few degrees cooler than before the storm arrived. And all is well with the world. One of God's many gifts which I adore. Did I mention I love thunderstorms?

Mango Madness

23 week update: Baby B's size now compares to that of a large mango... over 11 inches long and should weigh over a pound. Her sense of movement is well developed and it's said that if I were to dance around she could feel the swing of my sway. Also, her hearing is keen and certain sounds are starting to become familiar to her. Guess she should be used to Takota barking at the garbage truck by now. I think our puppy feels that the garbage monster is going to come plowing through our front window and attack. He really doesn't like watching the big machine on our street...

Early In The Morning

It's 2:20 A.M. and I cannot sleep! Oh, how I wish I could sleep! I guess I could look at being awake at this time as preparation for arrival of baby. Speaking of Baby B, I think she had the hiccups for the very first time the other night... made me giggle. Her kicks are getting stronger now. I just love feeling her move around inside of me. I am so thankful for this blessing. I absolutely love being pregnant, even though there are a few discomforts along the way... I am just so overjoyed with the whole process of becoming a mom!

22 Weeks Preggo

We are now 22 weeks along in the pregnancy; 18 more to go! Baby B should now measure around 11 inches in length and weigh about a pound. Our baby's skin will be wrinkly until she develops a layer of fat to smooth things out. Her eyes are formed, but the irises still lack color. And her pancreas, responsible for producing important hormones, is developing steadily.

Celebrated my first Mother's Day this past Sunday. I think it will feel a little more official next year when I am holding Baby B in my arms instead of carrying her around in my belly. Matt gave me a wonderful back massage upon waking Sunday morning... it was much needed as I start to get uncomfortable these days laying in bed. Then, he made his delicious breakfast casserole for us. He also made me lunch and grilled steak (my favorite) for dinner! Also, surprised me with a card and a romantic comedy to watch while snuggled up on the sofa. I have the world's most wonderful husband! He is so good to me! Hope all the other fabulous moms out there had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Good Night!

Working Out?

I think the baby is doing a kick-boxing workout in my belly. I have never felt so much repetitious movement from her before! I love it! Every time she moves it makes me giggle! Had yummy, yummy meatloaf with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies tonight for dinner. Ate a lot! Don't tell me baby is trying to work that off already! She should know that if she gets my genes, she won't have to work off any food for a long time!

This Little Carrot Is Good For The Eyes

Carrots are good for the eyes, yes? Well, this week (my 21st week of pregnancy... 19 to go...) our little baby girl's length is compared to that of a carrot. Looking at my belly and reflecting on ultrasound photos of Baby Girl B on the inside is definitely good for my eye-sight! I am just so happy being pregnant! Baby B is supposed to be around 10.5 inches long and should weigh around 3/4 of a pound. Her fluttering movements have already turned into kicks and nudges. I love how Matt and I can feel her nudging into the side of my belly! Sometimes she will move away in response, other times it seems as if she nudges harder against our hands! Her eyebrows and lids are now present, and her girl parts are becoming more girlie. Think I already mentioned the spider veins and leg cramps... and the belly continues to grow. Love it, love it, love it!

Saturday night, Matt and I went into the city for a little visit with my best friend and her mom who are out visiting from the east coast. We went to see WICKED while in San Fran together. What a wonderful production! Kind of made me miss high school theatre. The character with the best lines, that made me laugh the most, was Glinda. Her gestures and mannerisms had me rolling too! So thankful for a wonderful evening with friends!

Tonight we are having fajitas for dinner! I wish the hubby would have made his delicious homemade salsa... but he didn't have enough time. Oh well... another day. Can't wait to eat. I'm so hungry!

Walked around the duck pond today and saw a little baby duck swimming in the water. "Ducki" as I so affectionately called her was absolutely adorable! Peeping and fluttering to try to catch dinner. Made me laugh.

What a good day. Relaxing tonight at home with Matt. Life is grand!

Bananas In Pajamas

The 20 week update: This week, Baby Girl B is supposed to weigh around 10.5 ounces (ultrasound tech said she's 11 oz.) and she is supposed to measure around 6.5 inches from crown to rump. After 20 weeks they start measuring from head to heel, and if we went by that measurement she should be around 10 inches in length. Baby B's size is compared to that of a banana. Most interesting development this week: Baby B is starting to produce meconium... a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance builds up in the bowels and can sometimes be seen in the first soiled diaper. YUCKY!!!

Had my doc appointment today. The technician took my first belly measurement... 20 something from pubic bone to top of uterus (near belly button at this point). Something was said about baby being in the 64th percentile with her size. All body parts seem to have measured as normal. According to the ultrasound report, everything looks great and we are on track! Oh, and I've gained around 11.5 pounds so far! What a beautiful pregnancy!

First leg cramp in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago. Doc said uterus could be slowing down circulation; taking calcium before bed could help with the cramping. Also, I have started to get a little bit of back pain. But my wonderful husband massages me and all is well within 10 to 15 minutes. Oh, and this is fun... I've got those great little veins showing through my skin now. Doc just says it's another badge of pregnancy. I do get a little bit of heartburn. I've noticed it comes with eating stuff with tomatoes or dairy before bed. All in all, I feel totally blessed. These are just little badges I proudly wear. I'm just thankful I never had any morning sickness!

Matt and I went for a walk this afternoon. Started to rain on us, so we quickly made a B-line for the house. Nothing like a little water from the sky to motivate you to move a little faster. Pot roast for dinner and Bible study later tonight. What a great day!

New Ultrasound Photos

We had our ultrasound last Wednesday. Baby B is 19 weeks and 2 days in these pics. Breathtaking! Absolutely breathtaking!

Homegrown Tomatoes

"Homegrown tomatoes, homegrown tomatoes
What would life be without homegrown tomatoes?
Only two things that money can't buy...
That's true love and homegrown tomatoes."

Matt joined me on Wednesday for my 19 week ultrasound appointment and we learned that our little homegrown tomato is going to be... yes, we are having... A BABY GIRL!!! We are both truly blessed and so very excited!

At 19 weeks, Baby Girl Bailey is supposed to be around 6 inches long and should weigh around 8.5 ounces according to BabyCenter.com. During our ultrasound appointment the technician seemed to think our baby girl weighed around 11 ounces. I don't recall him telling us how long she is from crown to rump, but it looks like she has long legs in the ultrasound photo. It's a good thing I have a long torso... more room for our baby girl to stretch! Her heartbeat was around 140; she was sleeping. BabyCenter also says she is supposed to be the size of a large heirloom tomato.

This week, Baby Girl B's sensory development is supposed to take off. Her brain is working on designating areas for sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. Kidneys continue to produce urine and the hair on top of her head is growing. Wonder if she'll be a baldy or come out with a full head of hair? Or maybe she'll be somewhere in between with hair growth. I also wonder if she will have Matt's black hair or my light brown hair? His blue eyes, my brown eyes? I pray she doesn't get his massive jaw line or his uni-brow! The eyebrows we can work with. Those can be shaped. But we can't do anything about the jaw line. I just hope some of my more feminine features will smooth out and soften Matt's very masculine/dominant features. Most interesting development this week: the vernix caseosa, a waxy protective coating, is forming on her skin to keep her from pickling in the amniotic fluid. Don't want a little raisin popping out, all wrinkly and all.

In other news, Matt and I have decided it would be best for our family if I stop working full-time so that I can stay home and raise our little one after she is born. We are very excited to be moving from California back to North Carolina this summer!

This week has been a very big week for us. We have very wonderful news to share about our baby girl! I am enjoying Friday off from work. Have errands to run, so I'm gonna take off for now. Later today I will post new ultrasound pictures and those belly shots I've been promising for months. Stay tuned...

18 Weeks And Growing...

I am now in the 18th week of my pregnancy. Baby B now measures approximately 5.5 inches long and weighs around 7 ounces. The coolest development this week: Myelin sheath around nerves starts to form. We are all about that special, protective coating here! And it will continue to develop up to a year after Baby B is born.

I'm starting to hear that now is the time I'm supposed to start sleeping on my side because my uterus could compress a major vein which could cause decreased return of blood flow to my heart. That's no bueno, so, side it is. Every once in a while I like to sleep on my back... but back no more. I've already had to give up my favorite... sleeping on my tummy. It's a sacrifice I'm totally willing to make though... totally worth it!

Keep your eyes peeled for my next ultrasound! Coming this way next week! This particular ultrasound is of most interest. I'm hoping we'll find out if we are having a boy or girl. Hopefully Baby B will not be shy next week!

Baking an apple pie and it smells delicious! Can't wait to eat it!

Yep, that pretty much covers it. Hope everyone has had a wonderful day!

17 Weeks

17 Week Update:

Baby B is now approx. 5 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces. Baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone. Also, sweat glands are developing and joints are moving. Baby is no longer compared to an avocado, but is now compared to a turnip.

In 2 weeks we will have an ultrasound appointment to see if this little one will be a boy or girl. I can't believe we are almost halfway through the pregnancy... that 20 week milestone is right around the corner!

Another Flutter For This Mother...

I have felt the baby move a few times here and there... just a little bit at the time. Well, last night I was laying in bed singing to the baby. When I stopped singing [songs my mother sang to me when I was a child], Baby B fluttered quite a bit more than in the past. Then Baby B stopped moving around. I wanted to feel the flutter sensation again, so I started rubbing my belly and poking around where I felt the movement. Next thing I know: Baby B started squirming around (a lot!) in response to the pressure of my touch! The baby was moving so much it felt like my muscles were a wave that constantly kept rippling through the inside of my tummy. It actually tickled! I started giggling with glee. Matt came into the bedroom wondering what I was laughing at. I told him I was laughing at how much the baby moving tickled me... because I'd never felt that much movement before. It was so incredibly amazing! What a precious gift from God! We are so thankful to have this little bundle of joy that will be coming into our lives very soon.

Almost forgot to mention: had a dream the other night that I was in labor for 24 hours! When the baby arrived it was a boy. He looked up at me and just smiled away. Love those little baby smiles in my dreams!

Guacamole

I am now in the 16th week of my pregnancy! Baby B is about the size of an avocado... 4.5 inches long and 3.5 ounces. Within the next few weeks baby is supposed to double in size! Hello growth spurt! Baby B's legs are more developed this week and his/her head sits more upright on his/her shoulders. Also, the eyes and ears are moving closer to their final positions. The patterning of the scalp has begun... wonder if baby's hair will grow clockwise or counterclockwise? Maybe it will just stick straight up like Matt's hair! Toenails growing and Baby B's little heart is already pumping 25 quarts of blood per day! This little baby has my heart! I treasure my baby. This is one avocado we will not be smashing into guacamole.

In other news: friends are starting to get a little freaked out by seeing me with a belly. I've always had a super flat tummy, so people are not used to seeing me with a little something in the front. It's cute! I love it! Even though it isn't much... it's there. And it continues to expand. I have now gained a total of 6 pounds. One of my friends poked my belly and was a little weirded out by how firm it was. He was like... "UGH! It's supposed to be squishy!" We all laughed.

Did I mention I love being pregnant? And I love this baby! I am enjoying every minute of this experience!

And... It Was Good

Good Bible Study Tonight!

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably above all that we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

Today...

Today I purchased Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for a fundraiser and ate half the box! Delicious! It stinks that the closest Krispy Kreme is an hour away!

Today I heard the baby's heart beat again! 160 beats per minute. I love that sound! It is my favorite part about my doc appointments! [Everything is right on track for 15 weeks.]

Today I was told the consult would be put in the system so I can schedule my 20 week ultrasound appointment. That's right, in 4.5 weeks, we will find out the sex of the baby!

Today I talked to my mom. I miss her (and the rest of my family!) dearly!

Today was a good day. Hope everyone else had a good day too.

Cravings

People keep asking what cravings I've been having. I was going to take a picture to post with this entry, but I still haven't gotten around to doing it, so enough with the waiting. I'm just going to post, photo-less.

I knew I was pregnant the moment I craved: FRENCH FRIES! Matt and I had just finished eating sushi for dinner. I had a huge meal. And immediately afterward, I had to have french fries. I wanted McDonald's french fries. I wanted them right then. And I wanted them to be hot and salty and crispy! Well, I got what I wanted. We went to McD's and those fries were perfect! I ate the whole thing in less than 5 minutes! And they were delicious! Matt told me not to read too much into that craving. He didn't want me to get my hopes up, especially after being disappointed so many times before after finding out we still were not pregnant. But I knew. A few days later, I took the home pregnancy test, and voila! Pregnant and Expecting. Check! In cherishing that memory, I wrote a (cheesy) little poem to celebrate the moment. Here it is:

ODE TO A FRENCH FRY

Golden one,
Like the sun,
You make my life complete.

As hormones rage, it makes me crave
& you are what I need.

McDonald's fries,
I only have eyes
For your crispy, salty sticks.

Thanks a bunch
For the crunch...
(I have a hunch, I'll continue to munch)
On such a delicious treat!

Lately at work I have been craving Nestle Crunch ice cream bars. Also very yummy! I haven't had any weird cravings yet. No pickles and ice cream for me, thanks.

Apple Of My Eye

Baby B, the apple of my eye, is now approximately 4 inches long (and is compared to the size of... yep, you guessed it... an apple!) and weighs approx. 2.5 ounces. Major developments this week are: primitive air sacs in lungs start to form; legs are growing longer than arms; and Baby B can sense light (eyelids still remain fused shut). Also, taste buds are starting to form as well.

Felt another little flutter of movement from Baby B (I was rocking in our recliner) and I still can't get over what an amazing feeling that is. I've started talking and singing to the baby a lot. Hopefully Baby B will be comforted by my voice. Also, I've started cleaning out the house... trying to get rid of stuff we haven't used to make room for baby. And now that I've started, I don't want to stop. I almost wish I could get rid of (almost) everything and just start all over with a clean slate. But that isn't feasible, so I'll just have to continue cleaning out one box at a time. I've been feeling a lot of stretching lately... guess my body is just adjusting to the on-going expansion. And my tummy is getting much more firm. All in preparation for baby. I love being pregnant! Just wish I was closer to my family! Really missing home now-a-days.

Well, that's all for now. Goodnight.

Thought For The Day

"IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE TO RELEASE THE FAMILIAR AND SEEMINGLY SECURE, TO EMBRACE THE NEW. BUT THERE IS NO REAL SECURITY IN WHAT IS NO LONGER MEANINGFUL. THERE IS MORE SECURITY IN THE ADVENTUROUS AND EXCITING, FOR IN MOVEMENT THERE IS LIFE, AND IN CHANGE THERE IS POWER."

Praying For The Right Path

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."

I've always known that I would like to stay home and raise kids... maybe find a job that allows me to work from home so I can be with my children, and help bring in a little income on the side. With each passing day I want this more and more. I would love to have my baby knowing I would not have to go back to work in 6 weeks. To keep working or stay home with baby, that is the question. I pray that God guides me to make the right decision for my family, and that I find understanding in what He has planned.

New Ultrasound Photos

I love how you can see the spine in the second photo.

Squeezed in an ultrasound of Baby B today. These photos really aren't very clear, but I thought I would post them anyway. Baby B was sleeping in a normal position when we first started the ultrasound. Then, he/she did a backwards somersault, but stopped halfway and continued napping. The head is towards the bottom left and the torso looks more upright (except it's really upside down). And the little legs go up and back over the head towards the left. Baby B looked contorted. It also looked like the baby hiccuped a couple of times. I really wanted to see a lot of movement, but no such luck. I even jumped around a little and shook my belly too. Baby B wasn't having any of it... just kept on sleeping.

Flutterbies

Butterflies? No, Flutterbies! Today I felt Baby B move for the very first time! It was the most amazing, wonderful sensation I've ever felt in my whole life! I was sitting down in front of the computer typing a note at work this afternoon, and then I felt a fantastic little flutter! I knew right away what kind of flutter that was! So very cool! Totally stoked about being pregnant! Absolutely going to love being a mommy! Also, my belly has "bumped." Usually after eating dinner I get what I call a "puppy belly" (because when puppies eat their stomachs pooch out) and by morning it disappears. Well, this morning the "baby belly" remained "popped" out. Wahoo! Yet a few more little milestones in the wonderful world of my pregnancy!

My Main Squeeze

Another Baby Update! I am in week 14 of my pregnancy and have now entered my second trimester! Wahoo! Supposedly I am moving out of the danger zone and worst-case scenarios of losing baby percentage-wise decrease significantly. Wahoo, Wahoo!

This week Baby B is around 3.5 inches long, about the size of a lemon... my main citrus squeeze! Major developments this week: Baby B is using facial expressions, giving those cheek muscles a good workout. Kidneys are producing urine which Baby B releases into the amniotic fluid around him/her. Baby can grasp and may possibly be sucking his/her thumb. [I'm gonna have to mention to Baby B that this is a bad habit which can cause those little teeth to grow in crooked. Braces for me were inevitable. And yes, I was a thumb-sucker.] Baby B should weigh around 1.5 ounces. And head now sits on a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, our baby's arms should stretch out to be in proportion with the rest of his/her body. Also, the liver is starting to produce bile and ultra-fine hair is starting to cover the entire body. Last, but not least, the spleen is starting to help with the production of red blood cells. Lots going on this week for baby.

Another Baby Dream:
Last night I had a dream that I was playing with my baby, and to me, it was the most beautiful baby in the whole wide world. I was just giggling away. I love these happy little baby dreams. Makes me feel like I am bonding with Baby B.

On Saturday, Baby B and I received our first tummy rub from a stranger. WE were attending a bridal shower and the hostess asked to rub my belly. She said she just loved to feel babies. (Of course, since I'm only 3 months along, there wasn't much movement to be felt.) Just another little milestone. Since she asked, I didn't feel uncomfortable having her rub my tummy like I was a little Buddha. I think a random stranger walking by on the street who stops to rub my belly might freak me out a little more. At that point, I plan on reaching out and rubbing their belly as well. I'll keep you posted on what kinds of reactions I get.

Tonight, Matt and I went to Burlington Coat Factory to seriously start looking at baby stuff. We were taking strollers off of the shelves to see how they rolled. We put them back of course. Tried walking around with the carriers. Yep, that weight + weight of baby = mommy needs to start lifting more weights! My little 3-pounders aren't going to do my string bean arms any justice. Had so much fun. Just wish I knew the sex of the baby. Then we could really get into it!

Well, I guess that's all for right now. I still have belly pics from last week to post. Maybe I'll post those tomorrow. Goody! Something to look forward to...

Good Little Patient

Taking care of my hubby tonight. He's such a good little patient! Wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow; would love to be able to stay home and get him whatever he needs whenever he needs it.

Week 13

It's the last week of my first trimester (wk 13). Baby B is nearly 3 inches long and weighs almost an ounce. Fingerprints are now present on the tips of those tiny fingers, and every vein and organ can clearly be seen through the still very transparent skin. Also, Baby B's body is now starting to catch up with the size of his/her head.

Week 13 is off to a spooky start. Last night I had a nightmare. In this scary dream, I was stuck in a metal box. There were no windows or slats to peer out of and I could not stretch out my arms or legs. The box was very cramped. Then, for a brief moment I had X-ray vision. I could see into the room. There were lots of metal boxes, and each box had a person trapped inside. The box in front of me moved forward (kind of like on a conveyor belt). When the box came to a stop, there was a faceless man standing over it. The man poured some kind of liquid, either alcohol or lighter fluid, over the box and then set the box on fire. I started to panic. Next, my box moved forward and the faceless man was standing over me. I could hear him pour liquid over the box. I started screaming "my baby, my baby!" The box ignited. In my nightmare, I could actually feel the intensity of the fire/heat. I couldn't get out and kept screaming "my baby!" When I woke up, I was covered in sweat. Creepy.

Had fun this past weekend. Saturday night was game night at a friend's house. Pizza, chips, brownies (the most moist/delicious brownies I have ever eaten in my life!). Apples to Apples and Buzz Word. Thanks Zach and Kaylee for hosting a fun evening! (Too bad I forgot to bring my camera!)

That's all for now. Will try to post new belly pics soon!

The Big Two ** Eight

Celebrated the Big Two ** Eight with my husband tonight. He made me a beautiful card! Just wanted to say thanks to all of my family and friends who sent warm birthday wishes my way. I am truly blessed. Love you guys!

Disclaimer:

Images in the looking glass are not always as they appear. Today's image is distorted.

Having a bit of a rough day today. The hand-held silver frame could use a good polishing. As for the glass... I'm afraid it's the reflective strip on the inside that needs a little work. Feels like the antique mirror fell - crashing to the floor and I am down on my luck. Used to keep everything bottled up on the inside. Said to hell with it and perhaps gave the world too much honesty. Feeling misunderstood.

Tomorrow is a new day. Trying to find some balance. Thursday will be a new year [for me]... definitely something to look forward to! A new chapter. That will make you want to turn the page.

Limetastic!

Baby B's 12 week update: Our little baby is now about the size of a lime (2 inches long) and weighs half an ounce! I am still amazed at how quickly the baby is growing... I just cannot get over it! According to the Baby Center website, the most noticeable changes occurring now are that Baby B is developing reflexes! Baby is opening and closing fingers and toes, muscles are clinching and he/she is making sucking movements with his/her mouth. It is said that if we were to push around on my belly, Baby B would squirm in response. Now that I would love to see and feel! Baby B's intestines are starting to move into the abdominal cavity and the kidneys are starting to excrete urine into the bladder. Also, our baby is starting to "look more human" as eyes and ears are now in place. I would love to get another ultrasound picture, just to compare the changes in Baby B over the last two weeks. Who's arm could I twist to get another photo of my baby?

Forgetful Friday

This story is a little late, but I wanted to get it posted before I forget about it. Here is what happened on my forgetful Friday:

On the 26th, I got up and got ready for work. Got in the car, cranked the ignition, and started backing out of the driveway. As I started heading down the road, only a few feet mind you, I realized I couldn't see anything! I had forgotten to put on my glasses! Those are pretty hard to forget, but I managed to do it that particular morning.

That afternoon I got home from work and started getting ready for Mike's Surprise Party. I wanted to wear my contacts. I put the left contact in my right eye. Then, I took it out and put it back in the same eye. Finally, I realized I had it in the wrong eye!

For the life of me, I couldn't remember anything correctly when it came to my vision on Friday! Lets hope this coming weekend will operate a little more smoothly.

Water-Works

I... Couldn't... Stop... Crying... Tonight! Pregnancy hormones were raging!

I decided I wanted to make a pregnancy journal/scrapbook today. Went to the craft store and purchased all kinds of goodies for my baby book. When I got home this evening, I spread all of my "finds" out on the dining room table. As I looked at all of the "baby-inspired" background paper, I began to cry uncontrollably!

Next, I popped a movie into the DVD player. Bubbles made me cry! One of the previews was the anti-smoking commercial where they say the world would be a better place if everyone blew bubbles instead of smoking. The last scene with the baby in the back of the car in his car-seat with bubbles all around him made me cry even more.

Then the movie started to play. I watched "Everyone's Fine" starring Robert De Niro. The whole movie made me cry. Brief description: it was about keeping family together. The song playing during the credits: something like "I want to go home" or "it's time to go home" made me boo-hoo all over again.

Just couldn't stop the water-works tonight. My face was all puffy, as were my red eyes from bawling so much. [Don't know if I mentioned already, but the first commercial to make me cry at the beginning of my pregnancy was the On*Star commercial where the car is cruising down a winding road and it swerves so it doesn't hit deer. When they announce injuries reported, I lost it!] Being pregnant is so much fun! I never know what the day will bring! Perhaps I should start keeping the tissue handy just in case.

Mike's 21st *SURPRISE!* B-Day

Last night, Matt and I went to our friend Mike's 21st *Surprise!* Birthday Celebration! Everyone was asked to be at his friend's house around 6:30 pm. The plan was for his friend to pick him up so they could hang out, and then his friend would say he forgot his guitar at home... so they would have to come back to the house where we would all be waiting. Also, his friend asked him to just walk into the house to grab the guitar, that he needed to get something out of the trunk, and that he would be in right behind him. And of course, when Mike entered the front door, we all yelled *SURPRISE!* and started singing Happy Birthday. Mike was totally surprised! What a great night and good turn-out (20-30 people in attendance!). Thanks Linda and Tiffany for planning a great party! [The Mexican food was delicious, and so was the cake!] Here are a few photos of Mike and his family (and us) from the festive evening:
